MA300 ALGEBRA II
Course: MA300 Algebra II
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
Subject Area: Mathematics
Type: Standard
Credits: 1
Course Information:
This is a year long course that requires selection of both semesters: S1 and S2. This course is designed to build on math concepts introduced in Algebra and Geometry and to prepare students for advanced mathematics. This course covers problems more complex than those of Algebra I. Students study equations and inequalities, linear relations and functions, systems of equations and inequalities, simplifying and factoring polynomials, simplifying radicals, an introduction to complex numbers, solving quadratic equations, and exploring the conics, and logarithms.
Outcomes:
Recognize and graph special functions such as step graphs and absolute values
Solve systems of equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination
Perform operations on matrices
Simplify and perform operations on complex polynomials, radical expressions, and complex numbers
Factor polynomial expressions
Solve simple radical equations
Graph, solve, and analyze quadratic equations by graphing, completing the square, factoring, and quadratic formula
Graph and write equations for parabolas, circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and conic sections
Solve quadratic systems
Understand properties, perform operations, and solve logarithmic and exponential expressions and equations
Prerequisites:
MA200-S1 – Geometry S1 AND MA200-S2 – Geometry S2
Corequisites:
If you take this course, you must also take MA300-S2 – Algebra II S2
