DDSD Scholarships

DDHS Scholarship Information

The Delavan-Darien School District is supported by more than 70 scholarships annually, through the Delavan-Darien School District Foundation, the Borg Foundation, scholarships offered by families through the School Administration Center, and scholarships offered through local organizations, businesses and other groups.

The Delavan-Darien School District Foundation was founded in 1972 through the efforts of Wally Zimmerman, a longtime athletics director for Delavan-Darien High School. The Foundation’s purpose then, and today, is to promote education in the Delavan-Darien School District through the granting of scholarships. The Foundation awards dozens of scholarships totaling more than $100,000.

The Borg Foundation was established in 1959 by George W. Borg. It is the oldest foundation that financially supports the district. Today, it awards students with three scholarships, totaling more than $15,000 annually.

Students and teachers often partner with local organizations and businesses to foster relationships and encourage learning. By working together, the district and the following organizations have helped to enhance the education of our students.

Application Process

It is HIGHLY recommended that any senior interested in applying for a scholarship attend one of the following meetings to understand the process and get any questions answered.

Informational meetings about local scholarships were held on:

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE: 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1st, 2022.

To apply for the DDHS Foundation Scholarships DOWNLOAD the Scholarship booklet.  This will be made available in late February.

The Local Scholarship Book contains directions about applying for scholarships, as well as a list of all local scholarships and their eligibility requirements.

  • This list is provided as a courtesy and may not reflect all potential scholarships. Students are encouraged to research other scholarship opportunities from non-local sources.

  • Most scholarships listed in the local scholarship book are from Delavan-Darien area donors, companies, service organizations, etc. Actual giving of the scholarship is the choice of the donors. Some scholarships may be listed and applied for, but may not be awarded.

  • Keep in mind there are additional scholarship opportunities available from outside agencies as well (companies, post-secondary institutions, other non-profit foundations/organizations, etc). See “Other Scholarships” below section for additional opportunities we have discovered.

  • To qualify for a foundation scholarship, students must APPLY ONLINE.  (Scholarship Is Automatically Submitted When Complete. Students MUST Be Logged In To Their School Email Before Viewing/Completing The Online Application.)  DEADLINE: 3 p.m. Friday, April 1st, 2022.

  • Fill out the forms entirely. Read the instructions carefully. Give careful consideration to all of your answers. Proofread, Proofread, Proofread!

Scholarship Redemption

  • Applicants understand that all scholarships awarded at the DDHS Scholarship Awards Ceremony must follow the distribution process.  Funds will be distributed directly by the Foundation conditionally upon student submission of transcripts to the Foundation Treasurer for the semester just completed. Satisfactory transcripts will show 12 credits each semester.

  • Distributions will occur on March 1st for the fall semester and July 10th for the spring semester.  Please read the wording of your specific scholarship to see if it is all awarded during one year or over a two or four-year time period.  For multi-year awards, claims must be made for the semester(s) just completed.

  • Remember to include your address at the time that you request your payment(s). In the absence of a distribution date noted in the scholarship, the funds will be distributed after completion of the fall semester.

  • Late submission of grades will result in waiting to receive your funds until the next distribution date.

  • The Delavan-Darien Scholarship program is a REIMBURSABLE system.  DO NOT count on awarded scholarships to pay your bills.  Plan ahead and make arrangements to cover your expenses.

  • All funds for any college semester should be requested by August 31 of that year in college.  Requests for postponement require prior foundation board approval and must be made in letter form explaining the request.  The board determines approval or denial of any requests.
