Course Information:

This upper level art course will focus on Modern issues in the art world. We will address conceptual art, environmental art, political statements, and other current issues in art. Students will be given a range of problems and using knowledge from previous studio courses they will choose what media they want to use to solve them. The purpose of this course is to encourage students to create their own personal voice and strengthen their ability to communicate or create meaning through their work.

Outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • In depth understanding of conceptual art, political statement, ecological issues in art and the understanding of current issues in art

  • Understand, utilize, and identify the elements and principle of design and use them within their work

  • Identify and discuss their own personal ideas within their work

Technique:

  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently create strong work with a high level of craftsmanship inherently integrating the elements and principles of design

Analysis:

  • Critically analyze, evaluate and compare personal work with the work of others in a written format as well as participating in regular oral group critiques
