Course Information:
In the first semester, this course will be a continuance of promotion of literary development in a wide range of areas. Students will develop an understanding of the literary process focusing on analysis and critical thinking. The course will also include practice in writing and will focus on essay development.
In the second semester, this course will cover techniques of verbal and nonverbal communication. Presentation techniques in informative, demonstrative, persuasive, and impromptu situations are stressed. Reviews the fundamentals of grammar. Emphasizes practical application of English in business correspondence.
Outcomes:
Cite strong evidence to support analysis of a text, including inferences drawn from the text and determining where a text leaves matters uncertain
Determine 2 or more themes or central ideas and analyze their development over the course of a text
Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the writing structure an author uses including, whether the structure makes points clear, convincing, and engaging
Produce writing that supports a claim, conveys complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through effective selection, organization, and analysis of content
Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research
Write sentences and paragraphs using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and capitalization.
Write a resume, letter of application, business letter and a professional email.
