Positive Parenting Workshop is April 27

Turtle Creek Elementary School, 1235 Creek Road, Delavan, will host a second free “Positive Parenting” workshop with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Assistant Professor Dr. Brooke Winchell, on Thursday, April 27, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Dr. Winchell will share ideas and provide strategies on several topics including:

  • an overview on positive parenting,
  • how to prevent challenging behaviors from occurring,
  • understanding the acting out cycle and when to intervene,
  • how to give effective instructions to improve listening,
  • discuss ways to promote self-regulation skills
  • and guidelines for screen time.

This event is schedule for:

  • Thursday, April 27th, geared toward parents with students in fourth or fifth grade, 6-7:30 p.m.

All parents are welcome the session as topics can apply to raising all children.

About Dr. Winchell

Dr. Brooke Winchell is an assistant professor at The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Special Education and Early Childhood Education. Her research interests revolve around preventing barriers to and promoting children to reach their maximum potential by improving upon evidence-based and recommended practices. She has worked with children from birth to age 8 who are at-risk for or diagnosed with emotional/behavioral disorders, for whom she has designed, implemented, and monitored behavioral interventions. Specifically, she has extensive experience administering, interpreting, and analyzing evaluation measures intended to improve developmental outcomes for children. Brooke has extensive experience in working with children with challenging behaviors and is a certified trainer for Triple P: Positive Parenting Program. She has over 20 presentations at the international, national, regional, and local levels of the topic of behavior and promoting social emotional development.
