DELAVAN — Delavan-Darien School District, the only school district in Walworth County that offers a Dual Language Education Program, nationally-recognized music program and one-to-one computing program for students, is hosting its Enrollment Day for new incoming 4-year-old and 5-year-old kindergarten students on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at Wileman Elementary School, 1001 E. Geneva St., Delavan.

The Enrollment Day event is for students who will be new to the district in the upcoming 2017-18 school year.

On-site enrollment at Wileman Elementary will be available from 8-11 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. that Wednesday, Feb. 15. No appointments are necessary.

Parents and their child(ren) should attend so children can be screened for vision, hearing and academic development.

Parents can also learn about the AM and PM 4-year-old kindergarten options, the district’s Dual Language Education program, the on-site before- and after-school daycare options at Wileman Elementary, bus transportation, the district’s partnership with Head Start, available special education resources and more.

Online enrollment is available for parents who want to get a jump on the enrollment process. Visit www.ddschools.org/kindergartenenrollment/ for enrollment links and instructions.

Parents who enroll online in advance of the event should still come on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for the child screenings and to provide appropriate documentation for enrollment, including:

  • a valid parent ID,
  • child’s birth certificate or passport,
  • proof of guardianship,
  • proof of residency,
  • child’s immunization records (if available),
  • and emergency contacts.

(*parents who enroll on-site Feb. 15 should also bring the above documents and information)

Wileman Elementary will be entering its second year of housing only 4-year-old and 5-year-old kindergarten students.

The district this school year successfully switched to a “center school” model where children are assigned to a school based on their grade level, not geographic location. This model has peer groups of students together from pre-school through high school graduation and allows the district to provide better educational services while reducing costs.

Also, students who attend Wileman Elementary who are bus riders only ride with their peers — fellow 4-year-old and 5-year-old kindergarten students. Wileman has bus routes separate from the district’s two other elementary schools (which house grades 1-3 and grades 4-5) and the middle and high schools.
