The Delavan-Darien School Board and Athletics Director Guy Otte had some kind words to say to some of our outstanding fall athletes.

The board formally recognized the DDHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team for its second-place finish in the State Championship. Two players — Zeus Huerta and Jason Cano — each scored 50+ goals this season, the first teammates to ever accomplish the feat in the same season. The team was ranked No. 1 all season and came up just short, losing 2-1 to Mount Horeb in the title game. It is the Comets’ fifth silver ball in history, going along nicely with three gold balls from 2000, 2014 and 2016. Superintendent Robert Crist also said he received an email from one of the title game’s officials, who said he was pleased with the decorum of our soccer players throughout the game, even at the end when a loss seemed enviable”. It’s not always about winning, but that is still winning with how you conduct yourself,” Crist said. A lot of fans and the public saw that, and I am pleased to share that (email) with everyone. That’s a real tribute to some quality people.”

Also recognized was Cross Country runner Erin Sorg, a senior. She qualified for state a third time in her career and finished eighth a second time. She also finished fifth as a sophomore. She finished on the medal podium each of the three times she competed at state and was also a conference champion three times. She is one of the most decorated distance runners in DDHS annals.
