Fall athletes recognized at board meeting

The Delavan-Darien Board of Education recognized some outstanding athletes from our fall sports season at the Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 board meeting, including our state champion boys soccer team and state cross country qualifier Erin Sorg.

Athletics Director Guy Otte introduced our Division 3 State Champion Comets soccer team, which finished 26-1-2 on the season. Otte listed all of the multiple accomplishments and individual accolades, including multiple regular season tournament champions, Southern Lakes Conference Champion, regional and sectional champion, beating Division 2 state runner-up and SLC rival Elkhorn twice this year, and scoring 32 goals while allowing just 4 in the 6-game state playoff run. Coach Mike Marse was the Divisions 3 & 4 Coach of the Year. First-team all conference players were Tigrio Huerta, Gerardo Rodriguez, Jaime Rodriguez, and Ricardo Huerta. Second-team performers were Pablo Guzman Martinez, Jason Cano and Zeus Huerta. Honorable mention players were Israel Montelongo and Julien Riviere. Tigrio was a second team-team All-State player, while Gerardo and Jaime were honorable mention All-State players. Well done, DDHS Soccer team! #DDCometProud

ERIN SORG CROSS COUNTRY RECOGNITION

Otte and the board also recognized junior Cross Country runner Erin Sorg for her spectacular season on the trails. She was the Southern Lakes Conference Cross Country Champion by more than 40 seconds, was selected as the Southern Lakes Female Runner of the Year, was the Sectional Champion and placed 8th at the Division 2 State Cross Country Meet. It was here second-consecutive year qualifying for the state meet. Great job, Erin. We’re #DDCometProud of your accomplishments!
