The Delavan-Darien School District prides itself on having a wealth of written materials available to students so they can practice their reading skills and learn to love reading.

In order to provide a balanced literacy environment, the school district uses a variety of texts from multiple publishers.

Texts are "leveled" using a variety of leveling systems, including Reading Recovery, Fountas and Pinnell Leveling Guide, Lexile and Altos (STAR Assessment). Leveled texts are available in the school libraries, classrooms and centralized book collections at the three elementary schools.

Having "leveled" texts makes it easy for students to obtain and use the correct books for their reading level. It also helps encourage students to try hard to reach higher levels and show improvement in their reading skills.
