Youth Options is a state of Wisconsin program that allows juniors and seniors to take courses not offered by the school district at a state university, technical college, or a participating state private college or university.
The Youth Options program allows students who do not have a history of disciplinary problems and are in good academic standing and meet course entry requirements to take one or more courses that count toward high school graduation at a post-secondary institution.
This program opens the door to greater learning opportunities for students who are considering a technical career, wishing to start college early, or are desiring courses for self-enrichment.
Before being able to enroll in a Youth Options course, the student must have exhausted all the courses offered in that area of study and the course being taken must not have 80 percent or more in common with the curriculum offered at the high school. Written approval of a parent or guardian is also necessary. With School Board approval, the school district pays the cost of tuition for courses not comparable to those available at the high school. Transportation for this option is the responsibility of the students and his or her parents.
